What is air tightness?

Air tightness describes how well a building’s outer fabric resists unintended air leakage. Gaps around windows, doors, service openings and junctions can let warm air escape and cold draughts enter.

A blower-door test uses a temporary fan in an external doorway to create a pressure difference. Measuring the resulting airflow gives a picture of the building’s air leakage.

The test helps you understand performance. Sealing the leaks it reveals is what can improve comfort and reduce heat loss.
